Learn how to play in an ensemble with the VYOA’s Presto Strings program!
Presto offers beginning string players an introduction to ensemble playing in a fun and encouraging environment. The 7-week session ends with a fun and festive concert for family and friends!

Tuition: $160, financial aid is available
Rehearsals: Sundays at Elley-Long Music Center at St. Michael’s College, 1:30-2:30 pm
Winter 2025 Presto rehearsals are on the following Sundays:
January 19, 26; February 9, 16 (no rehearsal on Feb 2 & 23); March 2, 9, 16
Final Concert: Sunday, March 16 at 2:30pm at Elley-Long Music Center (dress rehearsal at 1:30pm).
Attendance Policy: Presto students are allowed one rehearsal absence for the Winter session. An additional absence may result in the student not performing in the concert.
Skills Expectations: Students interested in Presto should be able to read music in the keys of G major and D major and understand the written rhythms of eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes, whole notes and their equivalent rests.
Please see the sheet music below as examples of the skills needed to be successful in Presto. If unsure about student’s music reading level, show the sheet music to your private or school orchestra teacher.

Financial Aid
Financial Aid: The VYOA is committed to ensuring that no child is discouraged from participating due to financial circumstances. Need-based financial aid is available to all qualifying families with a combined household income up to $120,000 who wish to apply. You can find the 2024-25 online financial aid application here. Your most recent tax documents and a $50 deposit will need to accompany your application. Additional questions can be emailed to myriam@vyo.org
